MUSIC,MUSIC,MUSIC!!!

This Tuesday my husband informed me that we were accompanying one of his friends
at an open mic in Cotuit that evening!  He forgot to write down the date and we hadn't
practiced the music, and I would not be free until 4:30 that afternoon!  Needless to say,
I was a bit stressed out!  However, I held my temper and we pulled it together.  We practiced a few times at home and arrived an hour early.  We were able to set up and get a glass of wine at the performance center.  Things were looking up!  Frank's friend Don arrived in full Elvis regalia including the black wig and sunglasses!  We practiced
"Hound Dog" and "Heartbreak Hotel", and we were the second act to go on.  The audience loved it and everything went well!  We listened to a few other performers and left at 8:30.  It was fun to be up and about on a summer evening!  We hadn't had dinner, so we opted for Chinese take out which was perfect!  We were having a date on a week night!  My point here is to enjoy each other and do what makes you happy together.  My husband and I met many years ago and connected through our music.  We both play guitar and sing and we love it!  Do what makes you happy and you will make others happy too.  Sound like a song doesn't it?

ANGELS ALL AROUND US!!!

Anyone who doesn't believe in angels should try driving around the cape and you'll believe in them pretty quickly!  This weekend an enormous amount of people descended upon us.  We tried to get into one of our favorite pubs and it was just packed.  Just driving less than a mile took twice as long!  Oh well, it is summer time and the weather is just gorgeous.  So have fun and don't forget your sunscreen!

Also, don't forget to exercise.  Take a walk or ride your bike.  I took a nice walk on the bike trail and walked as fast as I could.  Then, I did some sideways running.  It's really more like jogging and it gets my heart rate up.  I did a mile and a half in 30 minutes which is a good rate for me.  Yesterday, we played music at Epoch of Brewster which was lots of fun, and we got plenty of exercise hauling the equipment.
Today I did 4 miles on the bike.  Enjoy the weather and have a great week!

LAZY DAYS OF SUMMER!

Sorry I haven't written in a while, but I got all caught up in summer with sort of a summer rush.  Which was nice while it lasted, but I slowed down a bit.  The lady I was seeing for just two weeks is bogged down with company and is not taking time for herself.  Hopefully I'll get her back in a few weeks.  My other client fell last week and is in rehab.  So he'll be out of commission for about a month.  What I have to do is call my people from last summer and try to hook up again.  I'll get it done!

How's everyone doing with their exercise?  Are you slacking off a bit and going to too many cocktail parties?  Remember I'm available to come to your house to do a group exercise party.  Contact me through my website, facebook, or e-mail me at maryannsexercise.com.  Be well and stay safe out there!

FEELING STRONGER EVERY DAY!!!

Still continuing with my recovery from hip replacement surgery and I'm feeling stronger every day.  I started back to work on the last week of May with just two clients at the gym. The next week I added a class on Friday and finished P.T. on Thursday.  On that Wednesday I was able to walk without the cane.  All With permission from P.T.!  I have exercises to do to strengthen my right side which I do faithfully.  The next week I had my follow up with the doctor or physician's assistant,
who told me everything looks good but take it easy.  Something I find hard to do, but I added just one class on Thursday and my husband came to carry my bag.  These classes are all my seated senior ones, so they are not difficult or hard on my body.
I added all my clients by week 7 and now I'm at full load.  I get tired easier and have to rest more, but I feel great!  If any of you are facing joint replacement, do not hesitate!  Just keep in shape, do your exercises and DO WHAT THE EXPERTS TELL YOU!

SUCCESSFUL HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY!!

On April 27th, I went in for total hip replacement surgery at Falmouth Hospital with
Dr. Dimond.  It really was a good experience.  I had a heated johnnie and a Reiki Master massaging my neck while all the prep. was going on.  I read a book about preparing for surgery and healing faster by Peggy Huddleston and it really helped.  I downloaded her relaxation and guided imagery c.d. to my ipod and it was played during surgery.  I also had some positive healing statements that were also read during surgery.  I went to sleep at 10:30 AM and woke up at 1;45 with my earplugs still in and my ipod playing!  I slept most of that day and had a morphine pump for the pain which I only used 5 or 6 times.  I was up the next day walking in my very fashionable johnnie!  I walked 3 times that day and the next!  Only once on the third day because I was going to rehab.  Once at rehab, I waked again.  All of these times I was with a physical therapist, of course!  I did my rehab at Liberty Commons which is fabulous!
I arrived on Thursday and had P.T. twice a day until I left on Monday at 4PM., just a week after my surgery!  I am doing outpatient there 3 times/week and next week will be my fourth week.  I'm on a cane now and driving, and I'm feeling stronger every day!
My best advice to you is listen to your therapist, doctors and nurses!  They know what they're doing!  Happy Memorial Day!  Don't forget to thank a veteran!

HOLY WEEK/ PREPARING FOR SURGERY

Last week was a busy and an important week.  We celebrated Easter and hopefully the coming of spring after a very long winter!  However, we celebrated the resurrection of
Jesus which is the most significant point.  As a member of Holy Trinity's choir, I was pleased to participate in Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil.  It's important to remember Christ suffered death on a cross (a horrible death)so that we might have life everlasting.  From the washing of the feet to the light being brought into the church on Holy Saturday and the renewal of our baptismal vows, we are renewed and recharged in our faith.

I also am getting ready for hip replacement surgery.  I had the blood work, x-rays, and ecg done last Monday.  I will meet with the surgeon and anesthesiologist and will go to a class next week.  I read a great book to help me prepare for surgery.  It's called
Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster by Peggy Huddleston.  It comes with a relaxation CD
the you can listen to it during surgery.  You can also give the surgeon and the anesthesiologist statements to say during surgery.  It really quite helpful.  I also spoke with my husband and he's happy that I will be free from pain when it's done.  I will kep you posted.

BEST WON MEMBER OF THE YEAR!!!

Last Monday I was honored by my BNI chapter with the Member of the Year Award!
This is very special to me because my peers voted for me and this my second career!
I really feel I've done a good job expanding and growing my business, and a lot of the thanks has to go to Best Won(my BNI chapter).  The awards dinner was held at the Raddison in Plymouth.  There was a funny Photo booth where you could take silly pictures and we did!  The dinner was great with a chocolate torte to die for!  The awards ceremony ran very smoothly.  The winners name was announced and projected on a screen.  Another person handed out the awards and Brenda Curry congratulated you and a photo was taken.  It was really a great time, and I am proud, pleased and honored!

On another note, I'm running a spring special for my exercise class!  Just six weeks for
eighty dollars.  That's two classes per week Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 A.M.
at Harwich Community Center on Oak St. in Harwich.  It's a low impact aerobic class with abdominal work on the exercise ball.  Come and give it a try, you may lose some pounds and/or inches.
